Abstract
Objective The study was conducted to analyze the case-finding and clinical outcomes of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in Taiyuan. Methods A cohort analysis of the case-finding and clinical outcomes was conducted on the quarterly reports of pulmonary TB in Taiyuan, 2004-2007. Results From 2004 to 2007, a total of 4411 smear-positive pulmonary TB cases were reported, the proportion of which to active pulmonary TB increased from 38.2% in 2004 to 57.3% in 2007. The new registration rate of smear-positive pulmonary TB cases increased from 19.1/lakh in 2004 to 38.0/lakh in 2007. The average cure rate was 91.6%. Conclusion During 2004-2007, the finding and management of pulmonary TB patients were improved step by step, which was the result of implementation of the modern stop TB strategy.
