Sero-epidemiological survey on syphilis among floating population in rural community of Yuhuan county Zhejiang province

ObjectiveTo investigate the sero-prevalence of syphilis among the floating population in Yuhuan county. MethodsA cross-sectional study was carried out among all the people from other areas in 3 rural communities in Yuhuan by cluster sampling. Blood samples (5 ml) were taken from the subjects to detect syphilis antibody by ELISA, and the positive samples were confirmed by TPPA. ResultsFour sero-positive cases of syphilis were detected in 622 persons from other areas with a positive rate of 0.64% (95% ICI:/I 0.61%-0.68%). All positive persons were males aged ＞18 years and with education level of primary school or middle school. ConclusionThe sero-prevalence of syphilis was relatively low in floating population in Yuhuan, but the surveillance for current status of syphilis epidemic should be strengthened.
