Study on death trend and death burden among residents in Wenzhou city, 2003-2007

  • ObjectiveTo analyze the mortality level, the distribution of death causes and death burden among the residents in Wenzhou, 2003-2007, provide the basis for the prevention and control of disease.MethodsThe data of death among the residents in Webzhou from 2003-2007 were classified according to ICD-10,and birth rate, mortality, proportion of death causes and years of potential life lost (YPLL) were calculated and analyzed by using Death Reg 2002 software. ResultsThe birth rate, infant mortality, mortality, standard mortality was 896.69/lakh, 510.06/lakh, 538.66/lakh and 424.27/lakh, respectively. The rank of death cause order was malignant tumors, cerebrovascular disease, respiratory system diseases, heart disease, injury and poisoning, and the death by which accounted for 78.41% of total death. The first 8 diseases which caused potential life lost were malignant tumors, injury and poisoning, cerebrovascular disease, heart disease, congenital deformity, perinatal disease, respiratory system diseases and infectious diseases, respectively, with the average YPLL rates of 1.26%, 0.94%, 0.23%, 0.21%, 0.17%, 0.13%, 0.08%, and 0.08%. ConclusionThe main death causes among the residents in Wenzhou were chronic diseases and injury/poisoning, so the prevention of chronic diseases and injury should be strengthened.
