iscussion on incidence trend of infectious diseases in Suixi county, Anhui province, 1952-2007

ObjectiveTo analyze the incidence trend of infectious diseases in Suixi county in Anhui province from 1952 to 2007. MethodsThe data of infectious diseases epidemic in Suixi were analyzed by descriptive epidemiology. ResultsFrom 1952 to 2007, the annual incidence rate of infectious diseases was 5267.62/lakh and the annual mortality was 5.62/lakh in Suixi. The incidence rate decreased by 93.13% and the mortality decreased by 99.03% in early 2000s compared with 1950s. The incidence rate of infectious diseases increased year by year from 1950s to 1970s, peaked in 1970s, and had decreased substantially since 1980s. Before 1980s, respiratory diseases and natural focal/vector borne diseases were the major diseases, in 1990s the incidence of intestinal infectious diseases and blood borne diseases increased obviously, but in 2000s natural focal/vector borne diseases have become the major diseases again. The first five diseases for the incidence rate were malaria, influenza, dysentery, measles, pertusis. ConclusionGreat achievement have been made on infectious diseases prevention and control, and the diseases targeted by immunization program are under control effectively or have been eradicated, but now the great challenge are the prevention and control of malaria, pulmonary TB, hepatitis and AIDS. The strategies of infectious diseases control and prevention should be adjusted according to the change of diseases spectrum in Suixi county.
