Disinfection surveillance in medical institutions in Shaoxing, 2004-2008

ObjectiveTo survey the disinfection and sterilization effect in medical institutions in Shaoxing, strengthen the control of nosocomial infection and improve the quality of disinfection. MethodsField sampling and survey were conducted in 9 hospitals at municipal level, 5 township health centers and 93 clinics. ResultsA total of 5683 samples were collected in 5 years and the overall acceptance rate was 90.20%. For the individual item surveyed, the acceptance rate for hands of medical staffs was 79.18%, the acceptance rate for objects surfaces was 96.27%, the qualified rate of disinfectants was 99.08%, the acceptance rate of indoor air quality was 85.91%, the acceptance rate for autoclaves sterilization was 98.08%, the qualified rate for the intensity of ultraviolet lamps was 93.36% and the acceptance rate for germ free articles was 99.30%. For the medical institutions surveyed, the acceptance rate for the hospitals at municipal level was 95.11%, the acceptance rate for township health canters was 89.24% and the acceptance for clinics was 85.03%. ConclusionGenerally, the quality of disinfection and sterilization in medical institution in Shaoxing was satisfied, but the acceptance rates for township health canters and clinics were relatively lower, the acceptance rates for indoor air quality and the hands of medical staffs were relatively lower too, it is necessary to strengthen the management of disinfection in medical institutions.
