ObjectiveTo investigate the current status of HIV infection among the people seeking advice at the voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) for HIV spot in Yangquan, Shanxi Province. MethodsThe data of voluntary counseling and testing for HIV from 2005 to 2008 In Yangquan were analyzed. ResultsOf 2140 people seeking advice, 99.86% received HIV antibody test and 0.51% of them were HIV positive. Eleven people were detected to be infected with HIV (8 men, 3 women) with the youngest of 3 years old and oldest of 41 years old. Six cases were local people. HIV infection was found in men who have sex with men (MSM). ConclusionA few people were detected to be infected with HIV at VCT spot in Yangquan. Effective measures should be taken to strengthen VCT for HIV, make HIV infected people to be aware of their HIV infection and control the spread of AIDS epidemic in Yangquan.
