Epidemic analysis on a rubella outbreak in Yunlong county of Yunnan province, 2008

The present analysis was made to characterize the rubella outbreak in Yunlong county of Yunnan province from January to June of 2008. The study regarding the distribution of time, region and population was carried out on the rubella cases in Jiuzhou town collected from IThe Information Report and Management System on Disease Surveillance/I. The emergent public health affairs in Jiuzhou town were collected from IThe Information Report and Management System on Emergent Public Health Affairs/I. The data were analyzed with Excel software. A total of 586 cases were reported, mostly being students between 5 to 15 years old in Jiuzhou town. The outbreak spread to many schools in 13 villages causing a comparatively severe emergent public affair. To control the outbreak of rubella effectively, in addition to raise the antibody level in the susceptible population, a coordinated effort of multiple departments is required so that the epidemic could be reported and isolated timely, and effective measures for controlling the epidemic may be taken as soon as possible.
