Epidemiology of mumps in Zhejiang, 2004-2007

ObjectiveTo analyze the epidemiological characteristics of mumps in Zhejiang province from 2004 to 2007 and provide scientific evidences for the effective control of mumps. MethodsDescriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted for the data of mumps epidemic obtained from national notifiable infectious disease reporting system from 2004 to 2007. ResultsFrom 2004 to 2007, 22 461, 27 143, 22 992 and 19 637 mumps cases were reported in Zhejiang province with the average annual incidence rate of 47/lakh. The incidence peaked in spring and winter respectively. Nearly 80% of the cases occurred in the people aged 4-15 years．ConclusionIt is recommended that the measles-rubella-mumps combined vaccine should be included in EPI and the surveillance of mumps and infectious sources should be strengthened．
