Epidemiologic analysis of notifiable infectious diseases in Longgang district of Shenzhen, Guangdong, 2005-2007

  • ObjectiveTo determine the epidemiological characteristics and changing trends of notifiable infectious diseases in Longgang district of Shenzhen and to provide a scientific basis for the development of future prevention and control strategies. MethodsThe descriptive epidemiologic analysis was conducted based on the data derived from the infectious diseases surveillance from 2005 to 2007. ResultsNo type A infectious diseases cases were reported from 2005 to 2007. A total of 25 700 cases, 25 kinds of type B and type C notifiable infectious diseases were documented. The average annual rate was 471.58/lakh, the average mortality rate 0.68/lakh. The six most commonly reported type B infectious diseases were measles, syphilis, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, viral hepatitis and dysentery in an orderly fashion, accounting for 97.26% of the total number of reported cases. The three most commonly reported type C infectious diseases included other infectious diarrheal diseases, acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis and mumps, which accounted for 96.87% of the total number of cases. ConclusionAn inclining trend was noticed in the overall incidence of notifiable infectious disease in the last three years. Despite the downward trend in the incidence of intestinal infections, insect-borne infectious diseases and those of natural foci, the incidence of respiratory diseases, blood transmitted diseases and sexually transmitted diseases has increased during these years. Since such infectious diseases as pulmonary tuberculosis, measles, gonorrhea, syphilis, virus hepatitis, dysentery, other infectious diarrhea, acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis and epidemic parotitis have constituted the majority detrimental to local health, importance should be attached to relevant prevention and control measures.
