Epidemiology of sexual transmitted disease in national sexually transmitted diseases surveillance sites in Zhejiang province, 2008

  • ObjectiveTo analyze the incidence trend and epidemiological features of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in national STD surveillance sites in Zhejiang province in 2008 and provide scientific basis for developing preventive strategies. MethodsThe data of STDs in 4 STDs surveillance sites in Zhejiang in 2008 were collected from national disease reporting information system and analyzed by statistic software Excel 2000. ResultsA total of 6393 cases of 5 STDs were reported in 4 national STD surveillance sites in Zhejiang in 2008 including 3032 cases in male and 3361 cases in female (gender ratio: 0.90∶1), the overall reported incidence rate was 248.70/lakh. The reported syphilis cases accounted for the largest proportion of the total cases (31.33%), followed by urogenital Chlamydia trachomatis infection (28.86%).The majority of cases were farmers and workers, accounting for 34.43% and 20.26%. The highest incidence was reported in Dongyang. ConclusionThe incidence of STDs in 4 national STD surveillance sites was much higher than that in Zhejiang province in 2008, and the epidemiological features was similar to that in the province.
