Survey of HIV, HBV, HCV infections and syphilis among discordant HIV-infection couples in Zhumadian, Henan province

  • ObjectiveTo understand the current status of HIV, hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HVC) infections and syphilis as well as the co-infections among the discordant HIV infection couples in Zhumadian, Henan province. MethodsSeroepidemiological survey was conducted among the discordant HIV infection couples by taking blood samples from HIV negative husband or wife for HIV, HBV, HCV and syphilis detections. ResultsA total of 3 619 blood samples were taken, and 49 were HIV positive (1.35%), the infection rate of HCV was 31.20 %, which in creased with the age (2=-3.78,P0.01), syphilis infection rate was 0.17%, which was higher in women than in men, and HBsAg positive rate was 5.40%, The positive rate of HBsAg, HBeAg and HBcAb was 0.77% and the positive rate of HBsAg, HBeAb and HBcAb was 2.93%. HBsAg/HCV co-infection rate was highest (1.22 %), Co-infections occurred in 63.27% of the HIV positive people. ConclusionHIV infection rate among the negative husband or wife was high among the discordant HIV infection couples in Zhumadian, which indicated that they had become the high risk population of HIV infection, Co-infections of HIV, HBV, HCV and syphilis were observed. It is suggested that the follow-up of the discordant HIV infection couples should be strengthened and regular HIV, HBV, HCV and syphilis detections should be conducted for them to control the disease transmission among this population.
