Epidemiology of mumps in Shangqiu city, Henan province, 2004 - 2008

Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of mumps in Shangqiu from 2004 to 2008 and provide evidence for the prevention and control of the disease. Methods Descriptive analysis was conducted on the data of mumps epidemic obtained from national notifiable disease reporting system from 2004 to 2008 and statistical analysis was carried out by using Excel and Spss software. Results A total of 3248 mumps cases were reported in Shangqiu from 2004 to 2008 with the average annual incidence rate of 8.11/lakh,Most cases were children aged from 2-15 years. accounting for 94.83%. Conclusion Mumps is one of the public health problems which affects the children health and the school teaching in Shangqiu. Close attention should be paid on this problem.
