Analysis of death causes among residents in Mei county of Shaanxi province

Objective To probe into the causes of death and the related pattern among residents in Mei county, Shaanxi province. Methods The causes of death were classified according to the ICD-10 standards, and statistically analyzed with SPSS 13.0 and Microsoft Excel 2003. Results The average mortality rate in Mei county, Shaanxi province was 585.75/lakh. Cerebrovascular diseases, malignancies, heart diseases, respiratory diseases and injury and poisoning constituted the top five causes of death, the cases of which accounted for more than 85% of the total causes. Conclusion Chronic diseases and injuries are the leading causes of death in Mei county. Prevention of the two conditions should be strengthened in future.
