Abstract
Objective To determine the drug sensitivity and drug resistance genes of the Escherichia coli strains isolated from the chicken and pigs in a farm in Taiyuan.
Methods Drug sensitivity tests were performed for twelve E.coli strains isolated from the chicken in the farm. PCR was applied to identify the drug-resistance genes and PFGE for genotyping analysis.
Results Two out of the twelve isolates were plasmid-mediated CTX-M 9 extended spectrum -lactamase-producing strains with the presence of multidrug resistance.
Conclusion Molecular biological study and surveillance of extended spectrum -lactamase-producing bacteria in animals should be strengthened to prevent the spread and prevalence of drug-resistant strains in human beings.
