Drug resistance and drug resistance genes of CTX-M ESBLs-producing Escherichia coli isolated from the farm in Taiyuan

Objective To determine the drug sensitivity and drug resistance genes of the Escherichia coli strains isolated from the chicken and pigs in a farm in Taiyuan. Methods Drug sensitivity tests were performed for twelve E.coli strains isolated from the chicken in the farm. PCR was applied to identify the drug-resistance genes and PFGE for genotyping analysis. Results Two out of the twelve isolates were plasmid-mediated CTX-M 9 extended spectrum -lactamase-producing strains with the presence of multidrug resistance. Conclusion Molecular biological study and surveillance of extended spectrum -lactamase-producing bacteria in animals should be strengthened to prevent the spread and prevalence of drug-resistant strains in human beings.
