Analysis of AIDS intervention among female sex workers in Hohhot

Objective To evaluate the effect of the intervention on AIDS prevention and control among the female sex workers (FSWs) in Hohhot. Methods The questionnaire survey of AIDS knowledge awareness and risk behavior was conducted among the FSWs. Results In 2008,the HIV/AIDS related knowledge awareness rate (NUGASS indicator) was 37.7% among the FSWs,the condom use rate was 86.3% at the latest commercial sex and the rate of correct medical care seeking was 60.0%,which were significantly higher than the Results of the baseline survey in 2006. Conclusion The awareness rate of AIDS related knowledge,the condom use rate and the rate of correct medical care seeking among the FSWs were increased significantly by the intervention from 2006 to 2008,which could contribute to the control of AIDS transmission among this population and could be conduct among all FSWs.
