Inapparent infection of enteroviruses in 50 children in Nanning

  • Objective To understand the inapparent infection of entroviruses among the children without hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD) and provide evidence for the prevention and control of HFMD among children. Methods Fifty rectal swabs were collected from the children less than 3 years old to detect RNA of enteroviruses, EV71 and CoxA16 by real time RT-PCR. Results The positive rate of RNA of other enteroviruses was 34%. Conclusion Inapparent infection of enteroviruses was found among some healthy children. The epidemiological and etiological study of hand foot and mouth disease would facilitate the development of better prevention and control measures.
