Abstract
Objective To understand the HIV infection prevalence and related information among female workers (FSWs) in Ruijin.
Methods From April to July 2009, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 261 FSWs under surveillance to collect related information and blood samples were taken from them for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis C antibodies detections.
Results The awareness rate of AIDS related knowledge among FSWs was 90.42%, the condom use rate in last commercial sex was 90.80%, and the persistent condom use rate in last month was 65.52%. The antibody-positive rate of sexual transmitted diseases (STDs) was 0.38%, the FSWs suffering from STDs in last year accounted for 5.36%. The awareness rate of AIDS related knowledge and correct behavior rate in older age group were significantly lower than younger age group, which were consistent with their educational level.
Conclusion The prevalence of AIDS among FSWs is still low in Ruijin, but the risk of serious epidemic do exist. It is necessary to conduct comprehensive prevention and control of AIDS.
