Infection and genotype distribution of human papillomavirus among 1268 patients with chronic cervicitis

  • Objective To investigate the infection status and genotype distributions of human papillomavirus (HPV) in patients with chronic cervicitis. Methods The detections and identifications of 18 high-risk genotypes and 5 low-risk genotypes in cervical scrapes obtained from 1268 patients with chronic cervicitis were conducted by using gene chip technique. Results Totally 430 HPV infections were detected, the positive rate was 33.91%. The HPV infections of high-risk genotypes accounted for 82.93%, including HPV16, HPV58, HPV18 and HPV56. and low-risk genotype HPV infections accounted for 17.07%, including HPV11 and HPV6. The repeated infection rate was 25.35%, multiple high-risk genotype infections accounted for 66.06%, low-risk genotype + high-risk genotype infections accounted for 31.19% and multiple low-risk genotype infections accounted for 2.75%. The HPV infection rate in the age group of >50 years old was highest. Conclusion HPV infection rate was higher in the patients with chronic cervicitis and most infections were caused by high-risk genotypes, so it is important to conduct screening, surveillance and treatment of HPV infection among women to prevent cervical cancer.
