Evaluation of public health emergency response in Nanchang, Jiangxi province, 2006 - 2009

Objective To evaluate the response of public health emergency in Nanchang during 2006 - 2009, and provide evidence for the improvement of public health emergency response by the CDC staff. Methods The evaluation scale of public health emergency response was used during the evaluation, the data were analyzed statistically by using software Excel 2003 and SPSS 13.0. Results Totally 28 public health emergencies were reported, 25 were infectious disease events and 3 were food poisonings events. The responses of 7 events were excellent (25.0%), 12 were good (42.9%) and 9 were qualified (32.1%), the differences on the timely reporting rate of the events in these 4 years were statistical significant (P=0.01). Conclusion The response of public health emergency met the requirement and the timely reporting rate increased by years in Nanchang, It is still necessary to strengthen the training of CDC staff to improve the response of public health emergency.
