Analysis of 93 HIV infection cases in Neijiang city of Sichuan province,2005 - 2009

  • Objective To analyze the incidence and distribution of AIDS cases, and improve the clinicians' understanding of AIDS. Methods HIV antibody screening was performed among 26829 outpatients and inpatients aged 15-78 years (16 212 males,60.4%; 10 617 females,39.6%) in our hospital from 2005 to 2009, the positive serum samples were sent to Neijiang Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation. Results Ninety three cases were detected to be HIV antibody positive, including 49 male cases (52.7%); and 44 female cases (47.3%). The HIV-positive detection rates before surgery, blood transfusion and prenatal examinations and in general physical examination were 0.29%,0.27%,0.28%,0.28% respectively, which were lower than those in high-risk group (1.4%). As the distribution of HIV positive cases in the hospital, the HIV positive detection rate in general outpatient department (11/1542,0.36%) was lower than that in sexually transmitted disease clinic (13/3578,0.71%), and the HIV positive detection rate in internal medicine inpatient department (18/6364,0.28%) and surgical inpatient department (37/13 330,0.28%) were lower than that in inpatients department of infectious diseases (14/2015,0.69%). However, the total numbers of HIV positive cases were similar. Conclusion It is necessary to conduct HIV antibody test in general population owing to the risk of HIV spread from high risk population to general population
