Epidemiology of 107 HIV/AIDS cases in Cixi city, Zhejiang province

Objective To understand the current status of AIDS epidemic in Cixi and explore the effective measures to prevent and control AIDS. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the data of AIDS epidemic in recant years in Cixi. Results Since the first HIV/AIDS reported in 2002, a total of 107 HIV/AIDS cases had been reported, including 65 males and 42 females. Most cases (66) were reported in people from other provinces, but the cases in local residents increased by years. The cases were mainly the people aged 20-39 years old who were with lower education level. The major transmission routes included non-marital heterosexual contact and intravenous drug use. Conclusion The AIDS epidemic level was still low, but increased b years. It is necessary to strengthen the health education, tighten the surveillance in risk population, especially in female sex workers, people in correctional facility and floating population and conduct effective preoperative and prenatal examinations as well as the patients management to control the transmission of AIDS.
