Incidence of enteric infectious diseases in Huzhou city in Zhejiang province, 1950 - 2009

  • Objective To analyze the incidence trend of enteric infectious diseases in Huzhou from 1950 to 2009 and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of the diseases. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the incidence data of enteric infectious diseases in Huzhou during this period. Results The major enteric infectious diseases were dysentery, viral hepatitis A, typhoid, cholera and poliomyelitis with the morbidities of 15.20/lakh-1856.19/lakh, 4.10/lakh-563.73/lakh, 1.04/lakh-67.96/lakh, 0-1.44/lakh and 0-6.29/lakh respectively. Compared with the high mortality of enteric infectious diseases in 1950s (1.1/lakh), the mortality declined to 0.01/lakh in the 21st century. Conclusion The morbidity of enteric infectious diseases in Huzhou has declined obviously. Dysentery is still in the major enteric infectious diseases. Although the prevention and control of enteric infectious diseases has made great achievement in Huzhou, it is still the major challenge in the prevention and control of infectious diseases in the future.
