Incidence and outcome of tuberculosis in floating population in Xiuzhou district in Jiaxing in Zhejiang province,2005 - 2009

Objective To understand the incidence and outcome of tuberculosis (TB) in the floating population in Xiuzhou, evaluate the effect of TB control project and provide evidence for the prevention and control of TB. Methods The analysis was conducted on the TB related data in the floating population from 2005 to 2009 in Xiuzhou. Results The incidence of TB in floating population was 2 times higher than that in local population. Most cases were young adults aged 20-39 years, and most cases occurred in migrant workers. The curative rate of smear positive TB cases in floating population increased from 50.68% in 2005 to 89.66% in 2009. The follow up lost rate of TB patients declined from 17.81% in 2005 to 1.72% in 2009. Conclusion Strengthening the TB case management is important to control the TB epidemic in Xiuzhou. Due to the implementation of TB control project in floating population supported by the global fund, the curative rate of TB cases was increased obviously.
