Serotyping and drug resistances of 318 Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains

  • Objective To understand the serogroup, serotype and drug resistance of Vibrio parahaemolyticus (VP) in Pudong district in Shanghai and provide evidence for the prevention of the disease caused by VP and rational use of antibiotics. Methods Slide agglutination test was conducted to detect VP serogroup, and the drug susceptibility test of VP was conducted according to WHO and CLSI standards. Results A total of 318 VP strains were detected. There were 9 serogroups and 44 serotypes and 134 strains (42.14%) belonged to serotype O3:K6-the major panthogen causing food poisoning and chordapsus. The resistant rate of the VP strains to ampicillin was over 95%, and the resistances to chloramphenicol, cefotaxime and tetracycline were detected too, but no resistance to other 8 antibiotics, including ceftazidime, cefepime and gentamicin were detected. Conclusion It is necessary to strengthen the surveillance of Vibrio parahaemolyticus serotype O3:K6 as well as its drug resistance to prevent the emerging of super resistant strain.
