Abstract
Objective To understand the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis complicated with diabetes melitus (TB-DM) in Haimen and provide evidence for the prevention and control of TB-DM. Methods The analysis was conducted on the newly registered TB-DM cases in Haimen in 2009. Results The TB-DM cases accounted for 5.9% of the total newly registered TB cases. The smear positive rate and cavity rate in TB-DM cases were higher than those in simple TB cases. The difference on efficiency of standard TB short course chemotherapy between TB-DM cases and simple TB cases was without statistical significance. Conclusion It is important to conduct DM screening among TB patients and TB screening among DM patients with respiratory symptoms. Standard TB short course chemotherapy combined with DM treatment could produce stratifying efficiency for TB-DM patients.
