Epidemic analysis of shigellosis in Dalian city in Liaoning province, 2006 - 2010

Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of shigellosis in Dalian from 2006 to 2010, and provide evidence for the prevention and control of the disease Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the incidence data of shigellosis in Dalian during this period. Results The incidence of shigellosis ranged from 25.96/lakh to 69.54/lakh. The incidence peak was during June-October in a year, and most cases were children. The male to female ratio of the cases was 1.16 ∶ 1. Conclusion The incidence of shigellosis declined with years in Dalian from 2006 to 2010. Children and students are the high-risk populations. It is necessary to strengthen the management of food and drinking water hygiene in child care settings and schools.
