Detections of HIV, syphilis and HBV infections in premarital medical examination in Huzhou, Zhejiang province

  • Objective To understand the current status of HIV, syphilis and HBV infections in population receiving premarital medical examination in Huzhou. Methods HBsAg, syphilis antibody and HIV antibody were detected among people receiving premarital medical examination in our hospital from May 2008 to December 2010. Results Among 21 831 people surveyed, 4.65% were detected to be HBsAg positive, 0.30% were syphilis positive and 0.009% were HIV positive. The HBsAg positive rate was higher in males than in females, the difference was statistically significant(2=46.63,P0.05). No significant difference was found on syphilis positive rate between males and females(2=0.38,P0.05).The HBsAg positive rate decreased with years from 2008 to 2010, no significant differences were found among these years(2=3.93,P0.05). The syphilis positive rate increased with years, statistically significant differences were found among these years(2=10.44,P0.05).For HBV detection, 20.95% were HBeAg positive. Two main infection models were found: HBsAg+HBeAg+HBcAb and HBsAg+HBeAb+HBcAb, accounting for 83.82%. Conclusion The positive rates of HBsAg, syphilis and HIV in the population receiving premarital medical examination were not high in Huzhou, but as a special population, it is necessary to pay close attention to them. Premarital medical examination would play an important role in disease control, education about communicable disease prevention, improving life quality, ensuring family happiness and improving population quality.
