Evaluation on school and child care setting entrance checking of children's vaccination certificates in Dali prefecture in Yunnan province, 2010

  • Objective To understand the performance of school and child care settings entrance checking of children's vaccination certificates and re-vaccination for those who missed the previous immunization opportunities and explore effective management method. Methods The classification and statistical analysis were conducted on the information about vaccination certificate checking, re-issue of vaccination certificates and re-vaccination among children who had entered schools and child care settings in Dali. Results In 2010, the survey of children's vaccination certificates checking at school and child care settings entrance was conducted in 1071 primary schools (92.9%) and 462 child care settings (86.7%) in 11 of 12 counties in Dali. Totally 71 677 children were involved, accounting for 91.3% of the total. 3755 children missed vaccination certificates, accounting for 5.24% and 3684 children got new vaccination certificates. accounting for 98.1%. The re-vaccination rate was 96.7% for OPV, 98.8% for DPT vaccine, 98.7% for HepB vaccine, 84.4% for HepA vaccine, 94.2% for MMR vaccine, 64.4% for epidemic encephalitis B vaccine, 73.9% for epidemic meningitis and 75.0% for TD vaccine. Conclusion The effect of school and child care setting entrance checking of children's vaccination certificates was obvious, but the checking quality should be improved. The coordination and cooperation between education sector and medical sector should be further strengthened.
