Epidemiology of mumps reported directly through network in Xinshi district in Urumqi,2004-August,2011

Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristic of mumps reported directly through network in Xinshi district in Urumqi from 2004 to August 2011 and provide evidence for the prevention of mumps. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the incidence data of mumps during this period collected from national disease reporting information system. Results A total of 2673 mumps cases were reported during this period with an annually average incidence of 84/lakh.The male to female ratio of the cases was 1.4∶1.The cases mainly occurred in children aged 1-10 years. Conclusion It is necessary to strengthen the mumps surveillance among risk population and in area where the disease is prone to occur and improve mumps vaccination to increase its coverage.
