Surveillance of human brucellosis in Jinhua, Zhejiang, 2011

  • Objective To understand the incidence pattern of human brucellosis in Jinhua and provide evidence for the development of prevention and control measures. Methods Rose-bengal plate agglutination test (RBPT) and Standard Tube Agglutination Test (SAT) were used to conduct serological detection among risk populations: people engaged in cattle/sheep breeding, milking, slaughtering and trading as well as veterinarian. Results Totally 1387 people were surveyed, 49 were positive in detection (3.53%), including 8 patients and 41 carriers of brucella. The patient number was highest over the years. Conclusion The incidence of brucellosis was in increase in Jinhua. It is suggested to take effective measures to prevent the importation of sick livestock, conduct livestock immunization, human brucellosis surveillance, training of medical care provider and health education to prevent and control brucellosis.
