Surveillance of schistosomiasis in national surveillance site of Qianjiang, Hubei, 2005-2011

  • Objective To understand the epidemic situation of schistosomiasis in Wujiayuan village, a national schistosomiasis surveillance site, in Qianjiang, Hubei province and provide scientific evidence for the development of control strategy. Methods According to the national schistosomiasis surveillance protocol, the surveillance of schistosomiasis was carried out in Wujiayuan village. Results From 2005 to 2011, the positive rates of blood test and stool test in local people decreased by 19.25% (2=1.9, P0.05) and 83.80% (2=9.05, P0.01) respectively, the human infection rate decreased by 86.91% and the cattle infection rate decreased by 100% (2=54, P0.01). The snail-ridden area decreased by 21.12%. Conclusion The epidemic situation of schistosomiasis in Wujiayuan village was mitigated remarkably.
