Establishment and evaluation of automatic identification and reporting system of communicable diseases

  • Objective To realize the automation of communicable disease surveillance and reporting in medical institutions in Nanhai district, Foshan. Methods A communicable disease reporting software was installed in the ETONE hospital information management system to automatically identify the doctors account and actively search their diagnosis in the electronic medical record. Once the preset keywords were entered, they would be automatically identified by the system and the relevant information in the ETONE system would be retrieved, then the communicable disease report card would be generated. In this way, any disease needed to report would be reported automatically after diagnosis. Results By the automation of communicable disease reporting, the doctors workloads were effectively reduced and the delayed reporting, underreporting and misreporting were greatly reduced. Conclusion This system would improve the quality of communicable diseases reporting and facilitate the real time monitoring of communicable diseases.
