Abstract
Objective To understand the incidence characteristics of acute pesticide intoxication in Ningbo and provide evidence for the development of prevention and control strategies. Methods The incidence data of acute pesticide intoxication in Ningbo from 2007-2010 were collected from national disease reporting information system to conduct descriptive epidemiological analysis. Results The incidence of acute pesticide intoxication in young adults was high, but the case fatality in old people and adolescents was high. More cases occurred in males than in females; and more occupational intoxication occurred in males, whereas more non-occupational intoxication occurred in females. The incidence peaked during July-September of a year. Most intoxication cases were caused by orgnaophosphorus poisoning. Conclusion It is necessary to conduct mass health education about hazard of pesticide, strengthen pesticide management and the training of the first aid of pesticide intoxication and improve the surveillance of pesticide intoxication.
