Analyses on death pattern and years of potential life lost among residents in Taishun, Zhejiang, 2010 to 2011

  • Objective To understand the death pattern and years of potential life lost among the residents in Taishun, Zhejiang province, and provide evidence for the prevention and control of diseases. Methods The death data in Taishun during 2010-2011 were classified according to ICD-10 and analyzed by using Excel, SPSS 17.0 and DeathReg2005 to calculate the death rate, death cause proportion and years of potential life lost(YPLL). Results The overall crude death rate was 634.49/lakh in Taishun, the rate was 778.88/lakh in males and 466.50/lakh in females, the difference was statistically significant(2=278.68,P0.05). The first 5 death causes included cerebrovascular disease, respiratory disease, malignant tumor, heart disease and injury/poisoning, accounting for 85.14% of the total death. The first 6 death causes with high life lost rate were malignant tumor, injury/poisoning, cerebrovascular disease, congenital abnormality, heart disease and respiratory disease. Conclusion Cerebrovascular disease had highest death rate and malignant tumor was the major cause of abnormal death in residents in Taishun from 2000 to 2011.
