AIDS sentinel surveillance in floating population in Jinshan district, Shanghai,2009-2011

  • Objective To understand the awareness of AIDS related knowledge, prevalence of risk behaviors and infection status of HIV, Treponema pallidum and HCV in floating population in Jinshan, and provide evidence for the comprehensive prevention and control of AIDS. Methods According to the requirement of "The National Sentinel Surveillance of AIDS Protocol,2009-2011", the questionnaire survey and serological detection were conducted in floating population in Jinshan. Results From 2009 to 2011, respectively, 400, 405 and 400 samples were surveyed. The awareness of AIDS-related knowledge was higher in people with higher education\ level and increased from 51.75% in 2009 to 74.75% in 2011. The awareness of "mosquito can transmit HIV or not" was lowest. The overall condom use rate was low during this period. The condom use rate at each sex in people without regular sex partners, including FSWs and MSM, was higher than that in people with regular sex partners in 2010 and 2011. No drug use was found in these people. No positive serum sample was detected in 2009, but 1 HCV positive serum sample was detected in 2010 and 1 HIV positive serum sample, 3 Treponema pallidum positive serum samples and 2 HCV positive serum samples were detected in 2011. Conclusion The awareness of AIDS-related knowledge was improved in floating population in Jinshan during 2009-2011. The ratio of safe-sex was be havior not high. The positive detection rates of HIV, Treponema pallidum and HCV increased. It is necessary to pay close attention to the comprehensive prevention and control of AIDS, syphilis and hepatitis C and take effective health promotion measures in this population
