Abstract
Objective To understand the biotype and molecular biological characteristics of 1 suspected strain of Brucella canis isolated in Liaoning province in 2010. Methods The conventional subtyping, multiplex-PCR and multiple-locus variable-number tandem-repeat analysis (MLVA) were conducted. Results The strain was identified as Brucella canis by conventional subtyping and MLVA. Conclusion The conventional subtyping plus MLVA can improve the stability and accuracy of the identification. However, multiplex PCR results also suggest that Brucella canis and Brucella suis have close genetic relationship.
