Injury death in Huzhou, Zhejiang, 2006-2010

  • Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of injury death in Huzhou, and provid evidenc for the prevention and control of injury. Methods The analysis was conducted on the injury surveillance data in Huzhou from 2006 to 2010 according to ICD-10 to understand the change on injury death, age distribution and influence on life expectancy. Results From 2006 to 2010, the average injury death rate was 69.72/lakh in Huzhou, and the standard rate was 65.81/lakh. The injury death rate in males was higher than in females, which had no significant change during this period. The first 3 injury death causes were motor vehicle accident, falling down and suicide. The overall injury death rate increased with age. The injury death patern varied in different populations and in different age groups. Injury death ranked fifhth in all death causes, and ranked second for potential life lost, which had serious influence on life expectancy. Conclusion Injury has become a major public health problem to threaten peoples health. It is important to strengthen multi-sectoral cooperation and condcut targeted prevention and control to reduce the incidence of injury.
