Biological and molecular epidemiological characteristics of Listeria monocytogenes isolated in Tongzhou, Beijing, 2007-2011

  • Objective To understand the biological and molecular epidemiological characteristics of Listeria monocytogenes strains isolated in Tongzhou from 2007 to 2010, and provide evidence for the prevention and control of listeriosis. Methods Detection of 6 virulence factors (prfA, actA, iap, hly, plcB, inlA) of L. monocytogenes were conducted using PCR and the strains were characterized by serotyping and PFGE typing. Results The 6 virulence factors were detected in 57 L. monocytogenes strains. The strains belonged to 5 serotypes and 19 PFGE patterns. The predominant serotypes were 1/2a and 1/2c and the major PFGE pattern was GX6A16.CN0004. Conclusion All the L. monocytogenes strains isolated in Tongzhou carried 6 virulence factors and showed polymorphism in molecular type. According to the study result, it is necessary to strengthen the surveillance of L.monocytogenes.
