Abstract
Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of brucellosis in Jinzhou from 2001 to 2010 and provide scientific evidence for the development of prevention and control measures. Methods The descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the incidence data and surveillance result of human brucellosis in Jinzhou during this period. Results A total of 1273 brucellosis cases were reported with the average incidence of 4.07/lakh. The cases reported in Linghai, Yixian and Beizhen accounted for 77.38% of the total. Totally 1021 cases occurred in the people aged 25-59 years, accounting for 80.02%. The case number was 946 for males. Up to 1081 cases were farmers, accounting for 84.92%. Totally 3193 blood samples were collected from risk population, in which 179 were positive for brucella (5.61%). Twenty two strains of brucella were isolated from 34 blood samples, in which 18 were Brucella melitensis type 3, 3 were Brucella melitensis type 1 and 1 was Brucella canis. Conclusion Human brucellosis mainly occurred in the area with developed livestock farming in Jinzhou. The incidence of the disease had obvious seasonality and the predominant strain circulated was Brucella melitensis type 3.
