Epidemic trend of notifiable communicable diseases in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan,2004-2011

  • Objective To analyze the epidemic trend of notifiable communicable diseases in Xishuangbanna from 2004 to 2011 and provide evidence for the prevention and control measure development. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the incidence data of notifiable communicable diseases in Xishuangbanna during this period, which were collected from national disease reporting information system. Results From 2004 to 2011. No communicable disease case in class A was reported, but 30 511 cases of 18 communicable diseases in class B were reported, including 324 deaths. The average annual incidence was 365.62/lakh and the average annual death rate was 3.81/lakh. The first 5 communicable diseases with high incidences in class B were viral hepatitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, typhoid and paratyphoid fevers, malaria and dysentery with the cases accounting for 83.57% of the total communicable disease cases. Imported dengue fever occurred in 2005,the first rabies case occurred in 2008 and indigenous dengue fever occurred in 2010. Conclusion The overall incidence of communicable diseases delined in Xishuangbanna from 2004 to 2011. The priority diseases for which the prevention and control should be strenghtnened include viral hepatitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, typhoid and paratyphoid fevers, sexual transmitted diseases as well as emerging and imported communicable diseases.
