Abstract
Objective analyze the epidemiological characteristics of mumps in Jinhua from 2004 to 2011 and provide evidence for the prevention and control of the disease. Methods Descriptive analysis was conducted on the incidence data of mumps from 2004 to 2011 obtained from national disease reporting information system and statistical analysis was carried out by using Excel and SPSS software. Results A total of 17 938 mumps cases were reported in Jinhua during this period with the average annual incidence rate of 45.07/lakh. Most cases were children aged 4-14 years, accounting for 79.32%. Ten outbreaks occurred during this period, resulting in 398 cases (2.22% of the total).All the outbreaks occurred in primary schools, middle schools and child core settings. Conclusion Students and children in child care settings were the main populations affected. Mumps has become one of the major public health problems in Jinhua, which pose threat to children health and influence schooling. It is necessary to pay more close attention to the prevention and control of mumps.
