Survey of dengue fever outbreak in a construction site in Shenzhen

On 12 October, 2010, one suspected patient with dengue fever was admitted to a hospital in Shenzhen. The cases was confirmed as dengue fever by laboratory detection of IgM and nucleic acid of dengue fever virus in Shenzhen and Guangdong CDC. The case was a worker in construction site. Nine blood samples were collected from the workers (suspected cases) in this construction site, all were positive in the detection of nucleic acid of dengue fever virus. The virus was identified as type DEN-1. Because the workers belonged to floating population and there was no complete record of workers employed in the construction site, the transmission source was not identified.
