Sentinel surveillance of AIDS in sexual transmitted disease clinics inFengtai, Beijing, 2011

  • Objective To understand the infection status of HIV in patients seeking medical treatment in sexual transmitted disease (STDclinics in Fengtaiand provide scientific evidence for the development of prevention and control measures. Methods According to the national AIDS sentinel surveillance protocol,aquestionnaire survey was performed among the STD clinic patients in Fengtai in 2011, and blood samples were takenfrom them to conduct HIV test and serological test of syphilis. Results Totally 1262 STD clinic patients were surveyed. Among the patients, those aged 20-40 years accounted for 73.4%, Han people accountedfor 97.7%, those got married accounted for 56.0% and migrant residents accounted for 51.5%. The positive rates of HIV and syphilis were 1.0% and 20.3% respectively.The awareness rate of AIDS related knowledge was 90.4%.Among the subjects surveyed, 46.7% had commercial sex in the past three months, 39.7% had sex behavior with other sexual partners in the past three months, 0.1% were injecting drug users, 8.3%had anal sex with men and 19.9%suffered from STDs. Conclusion The prevalence rates of HIV infection and STDs in STD clinic patients were high in Fengtai. It is necessary to strengthen the health education and behavior intervention among the patients in STD clinics to control the spread of AIDS through sexual contact effectively.
