Causes of death cases reported by Beijing Tongren Hospital,2007-2012

  • Objective To analyze the proportional mortality rate of death cases reported by Beijing Tongren Hospital and understand the dynamic characteristics of death causes. Methods The data of all death cases reported by Beijing Tongren Hospital from January 1,2007 to December 31 2012 were collected from Death Cause Register Reporting System. The underlying death causes were classified according to the International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision (ICD-10). Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted with SPSS (Version 18.0) and EXCEL. Results A total of 2377 death cases were reported during this period. More deaths occurred in males than in females in all age groups and most deaths were in age group50 years, accounting for 92.6%. The deaths in age group 70 years showed a decline trend whereas the deaths in age group 80 years were in upward trend. The first 3 leading death causes were circulatory system diseases (n=838, 35.3%), malignant tumors (n=752, 31.6%), and respiratory system diseases (n=404, 17.0%). Conclusion The main underlying death causes were cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular diseases and malignant tumors. The average age at death increased, indicating the expansion of life expectancy. It is essential to enhance health education, early detection, prevention and control of chronic non-communicable diseases to control these diseases.
