Epidemiology of syphilis in Hangzhou, 2009-2011

Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of syphilis in Hangzhou in recent three years. Methods Epidemiological analysis was conducted on the incidence data of syphilis from 2009 to 2011. Results A total of 4,121 syphilis cases out off 57 346 patients were detected in our hospital during this period (7.19%). The annual diction rate of was 6.93%, 7.22% and 7.39% respectively. The detection rate in females was significantly higher than that in males (χ2=69.451,PMycoplasma infection and genital herpes were the most common complications. Conclusion The incidence of syphilis increased slightly in Hangzhou in recent years. It is necessary to take strict measures to control the spread of syphilis.
