Abstract
Objective To understand the infection status of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) and related epidemiological characteristics in non-remunerated blood donors in Jinhua, Zhejiang province and determine low-risk blood donors to reduce the risk of HIV transmission through blood transfusion. Methods Analysis was conducted on the HIV test results among 266 844 non-remunerated blood donors and epidemiological survey was conducted among those who were positive in HIV test. Results A total of 406 HIV positive persons were detected in screening, in which 29 were confirmed by western blot, the HIV positive rate was about 0.0109%. The infection status of 5 persons were uncertain and others were negative. Epidemiological survey indicated that 19 persons were infected through heterosexual transmission(65.5%) and 9 persons were infected through homosexual transmission(31%). Conclusion According to the HIV infection status among the non-remunerated blood donors in Jinhua, it is necessary to improve the blood donor recruitment and medical consultation, conduct health education about AIDS prevention to insure the safety of blood transfusion.
