Abstract
Objective To understand the relationship between vertigo and risk of stroke and provide clinical evidence for the prevention and control of stroke. Methods Through medical record review, scheduled consult and follow up, the incidence of stroke in vertigo patients during a period of 1 year was obtained and the statistical analysis was conducted by using χ2 test and t test. Results Among 3530 vertigo patients(mean age of 53.73±25.17 years), the incidence of stroke was 0.65%(23/??3530), which was significantly higher than 0.43% in control group(24/5589). Among all stroke cases, Ischemic stroke accounted for 73.91%, non-typical stroke accounted for 8.70% and hemorrhagic stroke accounted for 16.92%. The incidence of stroke increased with age(PPPConclusion Vertigo patients had higher risk of stroke compared with control group. Presentation of peripheral vertigo might be the initial manifestation of stroke and central vertigo might eventually progress to stroke. Middle-aged male, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipemia, coronary heart disease and atrial fibrillation are the risk factors of stroke in vertigo patients.
