AIDS epidemic trend in Kaiyuan, Yunnan, 2002-2011

  • Objective To understand the AIDS epidemic trend in Kaiyuan, Yunnan province, and provide evidence for the development of the feasible prevention and control measures of AIDS. Methods The analysis was conducted on the incidence data of HIV/AIDS collected through AIDS reporting system in Kaiyaun from 2002 to 2011. Results The annual HIV/AIDS case number reported during this period was in decline. The HIV transmission route changed gradually from injecting drug use to sexual contact. The proportion of HIV infection in females was in increase, the cases in age groups 40-49, 49-60 and >70 years increased and the cases in staff and the retired increased too. Conclusion Beside the intervention on injecting drug use transmitted HIV infection, it is necessary to strengthen the prevention and control of sexual transmitted HIV infection to strop the spread of AIDS to general population. The health education in the elderly, farmers and the unemployed should be enhanced.
