Injury in floating population in Pudong new district, Shanghai,2011

  • Objective To understand the incidence of injury in floating population in Pudong new district, Shanghai, and provide evidence for developing measures to reduce the incidence of injury in floating population. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the incidence data of injury in floating population in 2011. Results A total of 11 697 injury cases were reported, the average age of the cases was 37.74 ? 14.68 years and the male to female ratio was 3.14:1. The top three injury types were open wound(50.27%), superficial wound(30.67%) and fracture(7.96%). The top three injury causes were sharp instrument cut(40.63%), fall(22.81%) and blunt instrument force(22.29%). The common place where injuries occurred was working site(51.16%) and the high-risk group was workers in the front line(82.12%). Conclusion Most injuries in floating population occurred in work time, and the major type was sharp instrument cut. The priority of injury intervention in floating population should be the prevention and control of occupational injury.
