Distribution of death caused by cardio-cerebral vascular diseases among residents in Wenzhou, 2011

  • Objective To understand the distribution of death caused by cardio-cerebral vascular diseases among the residents in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province,2011,and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of chronic disease. Methods According to International Classification of Diseases,10th edition(ICD-10), the analysis was conducted on the death cause data registered among Wenzhou residents in 2011 by using software DeathReg 2005, excel 2007 and SPSS 13.0 to learn about their mortality, death cause proportion, years of potential life lost (YPLL) and average years of life lost. Results The overall mortality of cardio-cerebral vascular diseases was 202.53/lakh. The mortality was higher in males (214.29/lakh) than in females (189.84/lakh). The mortality was 223.87/lakh in urban area and 197.61/lakh in rural area. The death mainly occurred in the elderly aged above 65 years. The first 3 death causes of cardiopath were acute myocardial infarction, other coronary heart diseases and hypertensive heart disease. Conclusion Cardio-cerebral vascular diseases have become the major death cause among the residents in Wenzhou. It is important to conduct targeted prevention and control of the diseases according to their distribution.
